And the beach is much more appealing to me than the forest in DKC 3. Actually a lot of your issues about being bland and not memorable I feel about DKC 3 personally, the worlds there feel dull and lackluster to me. So yeah, I can’t say these issues about the beach really resonate with me, since I feel the opposite about most of them. And I was actually thinking when I replayed this of how beautiful the rocket barrel level looked, with distant islands in a wide open sea and a blue sky. A lot of the levels were also really distinctive to me, I have vivid memories of the sand dunes, the ships, riding on a whale through the ocean, being chased by Squiddicus, the crashing tidal waves, etc. It’s probably one of the most natural worlds in DK imo. I don’t really get the “natural” issue, it’s sandy and rocky beaches with lots of water and animals. I do disagree a lot with this, since it’s one of my favorite worlds in the series. I hope this gave you a good insight on how I feel about these worlds' placements. DKC2 only gets good when reaching Krem Quay and even then, it only slowly builds up. A bland volcano environment with long, dreadful levels *cough* Crocodile Cauldron *cough* doesn't give that same feeling. A lush forest with riverbanks and mills - this seems fun. This is perhaps why I found DKC3 to be the overall best experience of a Donkey Kong game at first, since the second world immediately caught my full attention. games, since they also look bland and plain boring and are stupidly placed at the beginning of the game. I also get the exact same feeling from desert worlds in New Super Mario Bros. This beach world first invoked a feeling of bland game design when I first stumbled upon it. You see, when starting a new game, the most important part for developers is to make the worlds following the first world the most enjoyable, as they give the player a real taste of what the game is like. The only levels I praise for being good are Stormy Shore and Blowhole Bound, since these levels feature fun gimmicks at least. The Rocket Barrel level might be the worst setting I've seen so far for a Rocket Barrel level, and Tidal Terror gets annoying because of it's gimmick really quick. The first, second and fourth levels all feature very basic platforming and a long basic beach. There isn't a lot of nature - only deadly water below and blue sky above. The main reason is that I don't believe the setting is tropical enough for a Donkey Kong game. You may disagree on this, but I believe the Beach world from Donkey Kong Country Returns is the worst of any world in the Donkey Kong Country series.
